Twisted Religion

twisted religion, gun violence, gun devotion, death

This week’s post was going to be about perspective.

But yet again Evil incarnate decided to exit earth through another shameful slaughtering of children and teachers at a Nashville private school.

I’m nauseous. I’m emotional. I’m done.

Dear United States of America,

When are we fed up with facilitating this?

When will we stop cosigning our babies death certificates?

When is enough, enough?

There is nothing political
about protecting our babies.

Stop pretending that’s what it’s about.

I was in my junior year of high school, 16 years old, when the Columbine High School shooting happened.

I was scared. I was devastated. I was 1,234 miles away. I hadn’t known anything like that happening in my lifetime. Before then, mass school shootings never plagued my fears.

It was inconceivable.

They started happening frequently enough to lose track after that.

Then came Sandy Hook.

Our firstborn had turned one just a few months before. We were 977 miles away.

A mass school shooting at an elementary school? Why would anyone ever want to hurt babies?

By then, somehow high school shootings seemed acceptable, appropriate even. But an elementary school shooting reopened that old wound of devastation.

Then even those started happening frequently.

> So frequent, that across our country, our public school systems together with the Department of Homeland Security has adopted active shooter policies and procedures.

>> So frequent, that we have taught our babies to stay quiet and out of view if they hear gunshots in their school hallways.

>>> So frequent, now as soon as I hear news of a new mass shooting, I mumble a prayer and move on without a second breath.

But the shooting on Monday, March 27, 2023, was just 27 miles away. That’s a 30 minute drive from my doorstep.

My children go to school just 13 minutes from our home.

Once again, that old familiar scar of devastation has been ripped open.

3 children and 3 adults who cared for them were slaughtered just 27 miles away at what should be a sanctuary.

6 local families will never have another hug, share another meal, hear another laugh, share another dream with their loved one.

3 babies will never have their first crush, get their driver’s license, graduate high school…

3 adults will never again say good morning their students, offer a high five in the hall, or share their smile with anyone…

I’m mourning for our community.

And I’m mad as hell.

I’m going to say it again,

There is nothing political
about protecting our babies.

Stop leading with your Constitutional rights. You have no rights if you’re not alive.

Just 30 minutes away from me, there are 3 precious babies and 3 beautiful adults who are no longer alive because of this political bullshit.

There are 6 families who have been shot today, who’s souls are bleeding out because they will never again get to tell their child or loved one how much they mean to them. There’s an entire school of children and faculty who will likely struggle to cope with this for the rest of their lives. There’s an entire community who has had their right to live ripped from them because of the bullshit misdirection of Constitutional rights.

Constitutional rights are the privilege of the living.

If Constitutional rights truly mean anything to you, then you prioritize life, and you fight for the foremost right to live.

This needs to stop.

Everyone should NOT be able to obtain a gun. It’s common sense.

We don’t allow blind people to drive. Children are not allowed to drive. And if your reaction time is compromised, you can’t drive either. We remove licensure and even imprison people who’s driving puts others at risk. We have standard preventative and reactive measures passed into state and federal laws because we recognize that operating a vehicle is dangerous. The governance is in place to protect the people.

— And automobiles are intended for transportation!

The entire purpose of a gun is to maim or kill.

And depending on the type of gun you have, that purpose can be expanded to include keeping the killer safe whilst killing as many living as possible.

But we have nothing in place to protect the people. It’s ludicrous. And devastating. And I’m done.

How many more babies do we need to offer for sacrifice on America’s altar?

It’s a twisted religion that refuses to govern for livelihood before entitlement.

I guess this is about perspective after all.

I’m going to say it one last time,

There is nothing political
about protecting our babies.

I hope we do better. We need to do better. Let’s do better, yeah?

To health and growth, and whatever change that requires.
